Love My New Sheets and Chicken Drumsticks

Sorry for the dead space....I have been a bit snowed under.  But I promised myself I would post at least once a week. One of my many New Years Resolutions - and I have already skipped over a couple.  What's that they say...Best laid plans?
Well here we are it's the 23 January and although I have been tardy in posting, I have certainly been busy elsewhere with ideas that just won't leave me alone long enough for me to be still.

First off, I have been making cot sheet sets...it wasn't until I was speaking with a friend whose daughter had all matter of trouble finding what she wanted that I decided to do a little research myself.and found just how hard they can be to find, especially if you are wanting specifics.

So I decided to put paid to some of the fabric that I had sitting in the stash...don't you just love that word - STASH. Did some fancy maths and sewed up some fitted sets.  Then I got to thinking ...drum roll for brain engagement... if these things are hard to find and  can be expensive to boot, I might as well just put some together and keep them as stock in the event that someone else may like them.  And as I still have heaps more fabric I'll just sew it up too, you can see where I'm going with this....I can see the stock pile building and just maybe I'll get the Market thing happening. Would love Love LOVE to do the Matilda Market in Brisbane and with a little luck I do believe I can do it sooner rather then later.

So what do you think?

The last 18 months have been an incredible learning experience and I can honestly I am now having the time of my life.  Who could have thought bedding and cushions, not just quilts and name pillows, could be soooo much FUN.  While I am a lover of all things comfy and pretty from way back... the actual thought of designing and making my own never occurred to me until curiosity took over.  With that,  I have also decided to change the direction of my quilting.. but that's a story for another day.

Now the one thing I have always had trouble with is time management and organisational skills i.e. being so tunnel visioned in my sewing room that everything else just goes by the by and I do mean totally engrossed that you don't even realise the sun has set an hour ago,  the spuds aren't even peeled, kids aren't bathed and aren't they the dishes from breakfast still not washed...this is another of my New Years Resolutions.  It has caused me a bit of grief and self recriminations especially when the Grand-Babies are around.  I just hate feeding little ones past 6.30 at night as has been the case on occasion in the past. Of course I can direct someone else on how to do this,  but implementing myself...ahhh.

So while having Leigha here for the past 5 weeks I actually put some of my own advise to others into practise with some very yummy chicken drumsticks.  Made my life a whole lot easier, so here is the recipe...

Crisp Roasted Mustard and Thyme Chicken Drumsticks

1kg Chicken Drumsticks
1/4 cup Dijon Mustard
1/4 cup Buttermilk
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 1/2 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
Zest of one Lemon
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
1 1/2 cups of breadcrumbs
2 tblsp olive oil

Directions

In a ziplock bag, whisk together the mustard and buttermilk.  Place the chicken in the ziplock and seal.  toss to coat and place into the fridge for 6 hours or overnight to marinate.

Pre-heat the oven to 180C.  Line a baking tray with alfoil then place a cooling rack on top of the baking try. Coat the rack with cooking spray.

Place minced garlic, thyme, lemon zest, breadcrumbs, olive oil, sealsalt and freshly ground pepper, to tast into a bowl and mix well with fingers until it's all evenly combined.  Pour this mixture onto a large plate.  Coat the drumsticks with the breadcrumb mix then place onto the cooling rack on the baking tray.  Spray the chicken drumsticks with a bit of olive oil spray and put into the oven and bake for about 40 minutes, or until cooked through.  Remove from the oven and wahhla...ENJOY.

Well there you have it...Doing these the night before just seemed to release any stress that comes at 4.30 - 5 in the afternoon when it is time to start with the evening meal.  Served these with a green salad, too easy...and a ton more time for sewing...YEAH
Hope you have enjoyed reading, I'm now off back to my sewing room and as I have committed to blogging at least once a week I will keep that promise.  Drop me a line, leave your comments, would love to know your thoughts

Hope you have a fabulous week.

New Year, New Beginnings, Resolutions

Hello and welcome to my first post for 2014.  Happy New Year.

This year I have so many things I want to do, thing that I have procrastinating about for some time now and now is the time to get about doing all that stuff.
Making a list was a start, boy and does it get ever longer the more you think about it.
Well first things first.
Fabric
Spotlight and Lincraft both had their famous 40% off sales just before and just after Christmas, and that was just the incentive I needed to whip in and get a ton fabric to get started on some new projects.  Not that I don't already have a mountain of fabric, but in all honesty when do we ever have enough.  This time though I concentrated on Laces fro Lincraft and lots of sheeting from Spotlight.  Some truly gorgeous stuff and perfect for what I have in store for it all.
This last Christmas saw me do heaps of pillowcases and name pillows so it was not hard to pick up several meters of prima cotton for more, just to replenish a much depleted supply.
I really enjoyed doing these so will be at it creating more sooner rather then later.  Here are just a few pics of the pillowcases that went out to some very happy campers this last Christmas.

So if you're in the market for something personalised and  different like these really cute totally original pillowcases, I can do any name or appliqué design.
Stayed tuned for pics of several more including my newly designed personalised quilt that I just know you are going to love and be sure to follow me on Facebook
